In those same disaster-laden days, some of the former Israeli Generals of the General Staff were discovered
in the United States. In a press conference they announced the establishment of the ILO,
the Israeli Liberation Organization. Minister Natan Gadanski, who at the time that Israel fell was abroad
on a diplomatic mission, declared the establishment of the Israeli government in exile,
and called on the Jews who remained in the Land of Israel not to despair.
The long-wave radio of the Israeli underground began to operate from the heart of the Mediterranean Sea,
broadcasting in Hebrew and in Russian. Journalist sources reported that the broadcasts were being financed
by very well-known and powerful American billionaires.

The Jewish nation in the Diaspora began to organize protest demonstrations, raise the level of Israeli nationalism,
and return to roots. Following the initial shock, the United States Jewry came to their senses and activated
their huge Jewish lobby in order to pressure the United States President and his government
to become more involved in the events in Palestine and to stop the terrorist acts against
the surviving Jewish population.

In a firm speech by United States Jewry, the Chairman of the Jewish Organization called on the United States President:
"The United States pushed the State of Israel to the limits of its ability to yield to the Palestinians,
prevented the Israelis from properly responding to the Palestinian violence when it broke out, and now,
after the fall of Israel in its brave attempt to make peace with the enemies of the United States,
it is incumbent upon the United States to maintain what is left of the State of Israel and to demand its
renewed independence. Even in the United Nations decision of November 29, 1947, it was stated that the Land of Israel
would be a home to the Jews of the world, and now, the Jews are being prevented from reaching their own land!"

Over two million Jews dominated the streets of New York in a huge parade of protest and solidarity which
took place for two whole days, paralyzing the entire city of New York.

In a rare journalist event, the seizure of Eli Don from his hideaway in a Tel-Aviv apartment was captured on film.
The incident in which Eli Don was captured was filmed by a British television crew, who was staying in Palestine in order
to prepare a piece on the Israeli residents in Tel-Aviv, under the burden of the Palestinian government. In the framework
of the background piece being filmed on behalf of the new Palestinian reign, the BBC reporters discovered a breaking-in
operation of the Palestinian police force on the street adjacent to the street where they were filming. Understandably,
the BBC reporters did not let this scoop escape.

The event which commenced with the arrest of Eli Don started to get complicated when it became apparent that
many of the Palestinian policemen began to incite and in fact openly call for the lynch of Eli Don,
who was arrested and jailed in a police station in the heart of Tel-Aviv. Towards evening,
hundreds of Palestinian soldiers and policemen began to congregate at the station, holding burning torches aloft.
Towards midnight, they broke into the station, took Eli Don out into the street, beat him and burned him alive.

Only two days after the event, which was almost completely hushed up in the Palestinian press,
except for a brief dry message on the finding of the body of Eli Don, the entire lynch was broadcast
on all the television networks in the world. Two of the British television photographers, who a year later won
the Pulitzer prize for this piece of theirs, had showed initiative by hiding on the roofs of houses in the vicinity
of the police station, for many hours, and towards midnight, had begun to film the entire lynching.

The police station was located on the former Dizengoff St., which was now renamed: Yasser Arafat St.
